What should I post on X?

What a post on X can hold

X's help centre says a standard post can have up to 280 characters and up to 4 media items, such as photos, a GIF or a video. Longer posts, up to 4,000 characters, are an X Premium feature (checked 7 October 2026). That limit is why X rewards one clear idea per post, while threads and longer posts carry the detail.

Formats that suit X (and differ from Instagram or LinkedIn)

X moves fast and is text-first, so the strategy is conversation, not polished visuals. Plan posts around opinions you can back up, quick lessons, and replies to people in your field.

  • One-line lesson: a single useful idea in plain words.
  • Thread: a step-by-step guide where each post makes sense on its own.
  • Reply strategy: thoughtful replies under bigger accounts in your topic, which is where many small accounts are first noticed.
  • Weekly recap: link to your best post of the week, or to your site, in a pinned post.

Frequently asked questions

What should I post on X?

One observation, a short lesson, or a link to a guide you wrote. Threads are optional. A single clear post is enough.

How many times a day?

As often as you have something to say. A schedule of empty posts is not a strategy.

Do hashtags still matter?

A relevant tag can help a topic. A block of tags looks like spam. One or two is plenty.

Should I post images?

When the image carries the point. A decorative image does not make a weak sentence stronger.

Can I repost my blog?

Yes, with a sentence that gives the point, not only a link. The reader should learn something even if they do not click.

What should I delete?

Posts that are wrong, private, or cruel. Do not delete a post only because it was quiet.
