How to grow on Instagram

Set up the account so growth can be measured

Instagram's help centre explains that switching to a professional account (business or creator) gives you a professional dashboard with insights, plus tools for ads and messages. It also warns that if your personal account is private, switching makes it public and automatically accepts pending follow requests, so check that before you switch.

  • Choose Creator if you are a person sharing work or content, and Business for a shop, brand or service.
  • Write a bio that says who the account is for and what they get from following.
  • Use the dashboard insights monthly to see which posts brought new followers.

A growth plan you can repeat

Pick two or three content pillars, such as tutorials, behind the scenes and results. Post a mix of Reels for reach, carousels for saves and Stories for people who already follow you. Each month keep the formats that brought followers and drop the ones that did not. Buying followers or using follow-for-follow groups adds accounts that never engage, which makes your insights less useful.

Frequently asked questions

How do I grow an Instagram account?

Publish useful posts on one subject and reply to real comments. Buying followers does not grow an audience that cares.

Does posting every day help?

Only if the posts are worth opening. A daily weak post trains people to skip you.

Should I follow thousands of people?

Follow people you want to hear. Mass following to trigger a follow-back is noisy and often restricted.

What is a realistic pace?

A few posts a week you can keep for a month. Judge the month, not one quiet post.

Do hashtags grow an account?

They can help a post be found. They do not replace a clear subject. Do not paste a block of unrelated tags.

Why do some accounts grow faster?

The topic, the consistency, and sometimes ads or a trend. You cannot see their full history from one screenshot.
